Factors
Natural Disasters
Natural disasters can massively affect tourism, for reasons such as; they can decline the number of tourist visiting an area, there is a decrease in money being spent in an area. They can also have a huge effect on public transport links, which prevents people from travelling within the area, so this will lead to a decrease in domestic tourism. An example of a natural disaster is the Hurricane Sandy.
Tourist don't want to come to a place that has been affected by natural disas ter
because nobody wants to go to a place where there is danger of harming their
self. A natural disaster that happened around the Indian ocean it hit the coasts
of 12 countries, 200,000 people died and 800,000 were left homeless.
"in the past 12 years, the Caribbean has seen Hurricane Gilbert
in 1988, Hugo in 1989, Luis and Marilyn in 1995, Mitch and Georges in 1998 and
Lenny in 1999, because of Hurricane Luis, Antigua and Barbuda saw losses of
4,000 to 7,000 jobs". The Caribbeans are the most tourism reliant area in the
world so for that reason when tourism stops they have nothing to live up on,
there will be less jobs and the workers will lose their jobs as there is nothing
to work for.

Terrorism
When people hear about terrorist attack they become concerned for their own safety, so
people might change their travel plans, and visit a destination where they will avoid personal
risk. Terrorist attacks such as 9/11 have had a massive impact on tourism. For example; the number
of international tourist arrivals fell by less than 1% from 696.7 million arrivals in 2000 692.7 million in 2001.
Direct employment in tourism fell by nearly 5% between 2000 and 2004.The terrorism affects the travel & tourism because it would affect the sector of the economy which would directly relate to the tourism industry which affect can be either large or small depending on the need on the travel and tourism industry. However, the impact of terrorism in the tourism industry which can be enormous which can lead to unemployment, homeless and many other social impacts. The effects are left in many other industries associated with tourism like airlines. The 9/11 is an example of terrorism it was in the US in 2001, passenger jets flew into the twin tower it was very shocking "The threat of terrorism still seems to be very real and the US and other countries, including the UK, continue to be understandably jump"(www.ttgdigital.com). The 9/11 attacks lend to airport securities being more strict also it made the flying more secure, the airports are much better than what it used to be before.

Recession
The cost of travel recently is increasing as the UK is in a recession in which
the UK's economy has not a lot of money and all the prices have risen and people
are not getting as much money as they used to, people recently are only having a
holiday abroad once a year as family’s are getting less money than they used to
for example in 2007 family’s generally took 2 or more holidays whether it was
domestic or outbound. This will affect the industry as more and more people
are only taking holidays once a year in which the industry will be losing money through the recession in which before the recession people usually took 2 or more trips which would have brought lots of money in, Also it has a positive effect on domestic tourists as there more likely to go on holiday in the UK. The negative effect on tourism would be that people are now not spending their money on leisure and holidays because people are now having to spend their money on things they need such as food and drink, bills, therefore the money isn't being spent on additional causes.Since recession, the outbound travel and tourism industry have lost alot of money because people are just staying local (domestically) for their short breaks and holidays to save their money for the more important things.

Conclusion
I learnt that most UK residents prefer to stay in their country other than going
somewhere overseas; they rather go somewhere like peak District or Buckingham
palace as it is cheaper and it is still enjoyable. The biggest event this year
that happened in London which brought in so many inbound tourist in the UK is
the Olympics, not only do people come here for holidays but also for business
purpose. USA is the second home for people in Britain to buy other than Europe
also, you won't have to worry about exchange rates or air fares when you have a
holiday home.Recessions are causing decline in sales, people don't have enough
money to spend on holidays as they have to pay for their rents, gas, and food. Terrorism
is a serious problem if it happens to any place people will be unemployment, homeless and
many other social impacts. The 9/11 changed the way the airports security for the better.
Overall the trends and factors affecting the travel and tourism industry are constantly changing
and impacting the industry, however the industry has to react in a good way in order to stay successful
and profitable. The industry is constantly changing and mangers of organisations need to keep up with all of the
current trends to make sure their businesses stay profitable and continues to meet customer needs and requirements. People need to feel safe when they are on holiday and they need to be confident that they will not be affected by terrorism or natural disasters, therefore the travel industry is making it safer to travel and also
more aware now of natural disasters and advising their customers of possible risks.
