More independent travelers :
The number of independent travelers is on the increase. In
a survey carried out by ITW (Independent Travelers Worlds), 44% of the people
that they asked, considered themselves to be independent travelers. The survey
also showed that the number of people using travel agents, had gone down from
56% to 28%. This means that people now prefer to select individual elements from various operators and put together their own holiday, rather than booking a package holiday. So travel agents are losing lots of business, because people found a much simpler way to book their holidays over
the internet. People are deciding to travel independently because on the TV and the Media make traveling overseas
independently more attractive. This has a negative effect on the travel agents and the tour operators because fewer people are now booking their holidays through these companies as they are booking them over the internet. This is a
negative things because some time people dont book them with ATOL and ABTA which means they would loose out on money if anything went wrong because they wouldnt be covered.

Increase in inbound tourism in UK :
Statistics have shown that there has been an increase in inbound tourism to the UK, for
reasons such as value for money. In 2011 Visit Britain developed a 4-year marketing campaign aiming to attract more tourists to the UK, by advertising things like; the 2011 royal
wedding, the 2012 Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic Games. They want to show Great Britain's historical and cultural heritage to the world in order to encourage people to visit the country. Visit Britain campaign has been marketed in many countries outside of the UK and is predicted to have a long-term positive effect on tourism in the UK. This table shows the statistics of inbound tourism. You can see the increase of people spending more money but the balance of payments have actually decreased as there are less people going overseas. Therefore there are more domestic tourists as people can not afford to take their holidays overseas because of the recession.
